Zeus Temple

The temple of Zeus was built in the Ionic style which was 8.50 meters wide and 13.50 meters long. It is a small replica of Athena Temple and it is believed to have been built by Pythius since it has architectural characteristics of him.

The construction of the temple was begun in 330 B.C. and was finished by the beginning of the 3rd century B.C which was the time for the yearly festival of presentation of votive offerings in honor of Zeus Soter and Athena Nike.

There are foundations of the altar on the east side or front of the temple a structure with the dimensions of 4.76 x 3.57. There are remains of the Byzantine fortress and the church attached to it on the north- east.

Naos (a term used by modern archaeologists instead of sacred road) was quite large, the two status of Zeus hera were housed in here.
